Bob
Thompson, Music
History
truly comes alive in this documentary thanks to music that paints
a tapestry of vivid colors. MotionMasters turned to a pro when
it was looking for a music director for this project —
a man who has the distinction of garnering both local and international
fame.
Bob
Thompson composed the original score for "A Moving Monument:
The West Virginia State Capitol." The powerful, uplifting
music creates an emotional connection between viewers and the
story of West Virginia's Capitols.
During
a professional career that has spanned more than 30 years, Bob's
music has communicated with audiences around the globe. From
his early days with the Modern Jazz Interpreters to an acclaimed
series of solo albums on labels like Capitol and Ichiban to
his latest work with his five-member, Charleston-based Bob Thompson
Unit, Bob has won the respect and praise of jazz critics and
fans alike.
With
appearances on BET, the internationally broadcast public radio
show "Mountain Stage" and several tours abroad, he's
long been a visible presence in the jazz world. Bob's holiday
jazz show "Joy To The World" has been broadcast nationally
for many years on Public Radio International. "Homeland,"
the Bob Thompson Unit's release on colortones.com, is a collection
of exciting contemporary pieces written by Bob and drummer Tim
Courts.
This
CD contains a soulful rendition of George Gershwin's "Summertime."
Bob's work on "A Moving Monument: The West Virginia State
Capitol" marks the second time he has teamed with MotionMasters
to post score a documentary. He also was the music director
for "A Principled Man: Rev. Leon Sullivan."
