Lukas de Gruyl, Production Assistant

Logging hours of tape, scanning piles of photos and carting lots of video equipment were among the mountain of tasks involved in making this documentary. MotionMasters was fortunate to have the talents and strong back of Lukas de Gruyl to assist with "A Moving Monument: The West Virginia State Capitol."

A production assistant at the company, Lukas has experience as an actor, director, producer, writer, stage combat choreographer and production designer. Growing up in Sutton, W.Va., he spent much of his childhood and adolescence on stage at the Landmark Theater and with Braxton County High School's Eagle Theater. He also participated in the West Virginia Thespian Festival at the Cultural Center.

Lukas graduated in 2003 with a bachelor of fine arts degree in acting from West Virginia University's Department of Theater and Dance. He then moved to Chicago, where he worked at venues such as the Timberlake Playhouse and the Piven Theater. Lukas co-founded Outside the Lines Theater Co., where he served as artistic director, and directed "infidel"— a multimedia theater event — on the West Stage in Chicago’s Raven Theater Complex. He also worked as office manager and an associate producer at Towers Productions, a television production company in downtown Chicago.
